Rare are some moments in life that make you stare in the face of reality with awe and mumble silently to yourself, ‘This insanity is just not worth it!’.
Quite special are these moments, which are like the fizzle heard before a lightning strike, for they are little surprises that the universe spring on us to get our attention on something much bigger; and undeniably crucial are they to our personal evolution because any thought process, decision or action that follows that singular, exasperated moment will most likely be life-altering. Just as mine was.
What led me to my moment was a saga in itself (those who would like to suffer the lengthy lament can find that story here). But what it had effected, even though the drama of it now seems ridiculous and insignificant in hindsight, was the realization of something profound –
- Fear is extremely debilitating and so are its ugly spin-offs stress, insecurity, and indecisiveness.
- Faith/spiritual wellness is elusive especially in the face of adversity.
- In the new age where the possibility of a deadly disease seems closer than peace of mind, where happiness is more of a guilty pleasure rather than a natural disposition, a fearless, spiritually strong, and emotionally fit life is hard to acquire unless we consciously and relentlessly work for it every single day.
And my effort to achieve that magical state of mind is the reason/purpose of this blog.
Now I could do that by simply picking up the scripture, putting my all in it, and forging ahead in blind faith. Or I could question everything I know, caper about various esoteric and philosophical concepts, wait for the awakening to blossom within, and acquire it the hard way. It could be a little bit of both or, as Rumi suggests, it could be the field beyond those two. But whichever it is, the primary objective of the effort is to weed out the stressors, reinforce the anchors, and guide me toward a grounded, calmer, better state.
Because like the bearded old dude, whose fleet of Rolls Royce garnered more attention than his philosophy puts it,
“One thing: you have to walk, and create the way by your walking; you will not find a ready-made path. It is not so cheap, to reach to the ultimate realization of truth.”
